What are liens and encumbrances?
They are rights or restrictions registered against a property, such as mortgages, seizures, oppositions or lawsuits. They are checked with a Certification of Legal Status from the Title Registry. A property can be sold with a mortgage, but it must be cancelled at closing so you receive a clean title.
