Punta Cana has the busiest airport in the country, dozens of kilometres of beach (Bávaro, El Cortecito, Cabeza de Toro, Macao, Uvero Alto) and the largest hotel offer in the Dominican Republic. That makes it the most liquid real-estate market for holiday rentals: one- to three-bedroom apartments in projects with pools, near the beach or Downtown Punta Cana.

There are also houses and villas in golf communities such as Punta Cana Village, Vista Cana and Cocotal, and land in Verón and Bávaro for development. Many projects sell off-plan with payment plans, which explains the large number of options in that category.

Frequently asked questions about Punta Cana

Is buying off-plan in Punta Cana a good idea?

It can be: entry prices are lower and payment is spread over the build. Always review the developer's track record, the contract and delivery dates with a lawyer before signing; your agent helps you compare projects.

What rental return can I expect in Punta Cana?

It varies a lot with distance to the beach, the project and the management. Well-located, well-managed apartments usually keep good occupancy thanks to year-round tourist volume. Ask your agent for real figures from comparable properties.

Are Punta Cana, Bávaro and Cap Cana the same thing?

No. Bávaro is the most established beach and shopping area; Punta Cana is the general name and also the area around the airport; Cap Cana is a private luxury resort south of the airport, with its own page on this site.
